New Town Hall Committee

From the June 2 Regular Meeting of the Town Council (TC)

Councilperson Sammons reported that she and 3 committee members had met with Mr. Richard Sands who would be willing to sell about 6-1/2 acres of his land across from the current Town Hall for $190,000—almost $30,000 per acre.  The TC took no action.

There was no new information to report but the need for an upgraded Town Hall of some type was recognized, either on the current site or in a new location.  Some audience and TC members had been concerned that “no town hall at all” was also an option under consideration.

Councilperson Sammons reported that the recently formed committee to investigate Town Hall building options--do nothing, renovate or build new in the same or a different location--held its first meeting.  Ms. Sammons said the goal is to have information, including cost estimates, available by early fall, looking to a public referendum on the November 2008 ballot.
